Supported formats

What to upload, and what happens to a file the stream cannot carry.

Last updated September 20261 min read

Upload MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A or FLAC, up to 150 MB per file (about an hour at 320 kbps). An MP3 is kept exactly as you uploaded it. Any other format is converted to MP3 at 320 kbps a few moments after the upload, and the MP3 replaces the original to save space.

While a file is converting

Media shows Converting to MP3… under the file's format. AutoDJ starts playing it as soon as it is an MP3, never before. If a conversion fails, Media says so and lets you try again; the original is kept until a conversion succeeds.

Bitrate

Listeners hear AutoDJ at your plan's AutoDJ quality — 128 kbps on Starter, 256 kbps on the other plans — whatever the bitrate of the file: each track is re-encoded to that rate on its way to air. The file in your library is not changed; downloading a converted file from Media gives you its 320 kbps MP3.
