Servers
The stations and servers Studio can broadcast to, and how to keep more than one.
MAWCast Studio is not released yet. This page describes how it will work; until then, connect your own encoder (see Connect your software).
A server is one destination: where Studio connects, as what, and with which credentials. The Servers tab holds your MAWCast stations first, then the Icecast and SHOUTcast servers you added yourself, then an Add server tile.
Your MAWCast stations
Linked to your MAWCast account, every station in your workspace appears here, marked MAWCAST and Managed by MAWCast. There is nothing to fill in:
- NO SETUP — Studio asks MAWCast for the connection each time you go live, so a changed password never breaks it.
- AutoDJ active or AutoDJ inactive — whether the station's rotation is on. Hover it to see whether it has something to play.
A station is renamed or removed in MAWCast Control, not here. Studio refreshes the list when you open the tab, when its window comes back to the front, and every minute.
Choosing the active one
Click anywhere on a card to make it the active server; it shows ACTIVE. The dropdown on the Studio tab does the same. Neither changes while you are live or connecting — stop the broadcast first.
The page never scrolls: when there are more cards than fit, arrows at the bottom move between pages, and so does the mouse wheel.
Adding your own server
Add server opens the editor. Choose Icecast (Icecast 2 source) or SHOUTcast (DNAS source); the fields follow.
| Field | Icecast | SHOUTcast |
|---|---|---|
| Server name | Your label for it. | Your label for it. |
| Host | The server’s name or IP, without http:// or a path. | The same. |
| Port | The server’s port. | The public port. |
| Username | Usually source. | — |
| Mountpoint | With its leading slash, e.g. /live. | — |
| Source port | — | Where Studio sends the audio. |
| Stream ID / SID | — | 1 unless the server says otherwise. |
| Source password | Required to go live. | Required to go live. |
| Admin / metadata password | — | Optional; used for the title. |
| SSL / TLS | An encrypted connection to the server. | The same. |
Test connection checks that the host answers on that port. It does not try the password: a server can be reachable and still refuse the source. Save with Save server (or Save changes).
Each card of your own has Edit, Duplicate (a copy named "… Copy", handy for a second mountpoint) and Delete.
Deleting a server removes it at once, with no confirmation and no undo. The active server cannot be deleted while you are on air.
Format, bitrate, sample rate and channels belong to Studio, not to each server. Switching server does not switch encoder settings — if one destination needs a different bitrate, change it in Settings before you go live.
They are called Servers, not Stations
A station is the thing your listeners tune into; a server is the connection Studio makes to carry it. Two names for two things that are not the same, even when there is one of each.
