Installation
Two ways to run Studio on Windows, and what ships inside it.
MAWCast Studio is not released yet. This page describes how it will work; until then, connect your own encoder (see Connect your software).
Installer or portable
| Package | What it does | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Installer | Asks where to install, then adds Studio to the Start menu and the desktop. | Studio lives on your own machine. |
| Portable executable | One file that runs without installing anything. | You carry it to a booth, a venue or somebody else’s computer. |
The portable build is the point for a DJ with a USB stick: it broadcasts from a machine they do not own and leaves nothing installed behind.
What you need
- Windows, 64-bit.
- For System and Application capture, Windows itself: Studio uses the audio Windows is already routing, with nothing extra to install.
- A connection that can carry the bitrate you choose, with room to spare.
What is bundled
Studio carries its own encoder (FFmpeg) rather than expecting one on your machine, so there is nothing to install alongside it and no version of anything to match. Its licence and notices ship beside it.
An MSI for managed Windows deployments is intended, not shipped. The installer and the portable executable are the two packages.
The encoder is looked up inside Studio's own folder. Copying the executable of an installation somewhere else without the rest of it produces an encoder error the first time you go live — see Troubleshooting.
What Studio keeps on your computer
- Your settings and the servers you added, in your Windows user profile.
- Passwords and the MAWCast sign-in, encrypted with Windows' own protection. If Windows cannot protect them, Studio keeps them only until it closes and asks again next time.
- Never the source password of a MAWCast station: Studio asks MAWCast for it when you go live.
