Metadata

What listeners see while the rotation plays, and where it comes from.

Last updated September 20261 min read

What is announced

AutoDJ tells the stream server what it has started, once per track. That announcement is what your public page, an embedded player and a listener's own player all read.

ShownComes from
TitleThe title stored with the file in your media library.
ArtistThe artist stored with the file.

Fixing what is shown

Metadata is edited in the media library, not in the playlist. A change applies the next time the track plays — the announcement for the track already on air has been made.

A live broadcaster overrides it

While somebody is broadcasting, what listeners see is what their encoder sends. MAWCast does not overwrite it with anything of its own.

When nothing is announced

Two cases produce a blank: a file with no title or artist stored, and a server that MAWCast cannot authenticate against for announcements. In the second case nothing is sent at all rather than sent unauthenticated, so the player keeps the last title it had.
