Recording
Keeping a local copy of what you broadcast.
MAWCast Studio is not released yet. This page describes how it will work; until then, connect your own encoder (see Connect your software).
Studio records to your own disk. RECORD is its own button beside GO LIVE: a recording is not a side effect of being on air, and you can record without broadcasting at all. While it runs, the top bar shows REC.
Settings → Local recording
| Setting | Choices |
|---|---|
| Format | WAV 24-bit (default), FLAC, MP3, OGG / Vorbis, Opus, AAC |
| Bitrate | 32 to 320 kbps, for the compressed formats (default 320) |
| Destination | The folder recordings go to — Choose folder |
| Record automatically | Start and stop the recording with the stream |
WAV for an untouched copy, FLAC for a smaller untouched copy, MP3 for something you can post. Choosing WAV or FLAC hides the bitrate rather than showing a setting that would do nothing. Recordings use the sample rate and channels of Streaming output.
Where files go
Into the destination folder (Studio creates it if it does not exist), named after the station and the moment the recording started:
My Radio_2026-10-10_21-30-00.wavThe time in the name is UTC, not your local time. The console says when a recording starts and prints the full path when it is saved:
Recording...
Saved on: C:\Users\you\Music\MAWCast\My Radio_2026-10-10_21-30-00.wavStudio checks the file exists and is not empty before it says it was saved. With no folder set, RECORD asks for one first.
Recording and the stream
- Record automatically on: going live starts a recording, and stopping the stream stops it.
- Going live closes a recording that was already running — the file is saved — and, with Record automatically on, starts a new one.
- STOP STREAM also stops a recording started with RECORD.
- With Record automatically on and no folder set, the broadcast goes ahead without a recording, and the console says so.
If you rely on Record automatically, choose the destination folder in the same sitting and make one test recording before a show that matters.
