Overview
The desktop application for going live: one window, one button, and everything you need to watch while you are on air.
MAWCast Studio is not released yet. This page describes how it will work; until then, connect your own encoder (see Connect your software).
Studio is a Windows desktop application. It captures audio from your machine, processes it, encodes it and sends it to your station — and shows you, around the button that starts it, everything that tells you whether the broadcast is healthy.
The signal path
Everything Studio does happens in this order, and each stage has a page here.
Audio source
A device, the whole system, or one application.
Input gain
From −24 to +24 dB, before anything else touches the signal.
DSP
An 8-band equaliser, presets and a safety limiter.
Encoder
Format, bitrate, sample rate, channels.
Server
A MAWCast station, or an Icecast or SHOUTcast server you add.
Listeners
With the title you send as metadata.
A recorder takes the same audio and writes it to disk alongside the stream, and the window reads the connection back: listeners, uptime, ping, the machine's load and a console of what happened.
The window
One window of a fixed size, with four tabs in the top bar. It cannot be resized or made full screen: everything has its place and stays there.
| Tab | What lives there |
|---|---|
| Studio | The active server, the Live panel with GO LIVE and RECORD, the audio input, gain and meters, the console and the machine’s load. |
| Servers | Your MAWCast stations and the servers you add yourself. |
| DSP | Equaliser, presets and safety limiter. |
| Settings | Your MAWCast account, the language, streaming output, local recording and now playing. |
Beside the tabs, the top bar shows the broadcast state (READY, CONNECTING, LIVE with the listener count, or ERROR, plus a REC badge while recording), your MAWCast account or Link MAWCast, the notifications bell and ?, which opens this documentation in your browser.
Linked to MAWCast, it knows your stations
Link Studio to your MAWCast account once, in your browser, and your stations appear in Servers ready to use: going live is choosing one and pressing the button — no hostname, no mountpoint, no source password, nothing to keep in step when a credential changes. See Servers.
That is also what makes it the answer for DJ software that cannot broadcast to an Icecast station on its own: rekordbox, Serato and VirtualDJ have no MP3 Icecast output, and Studio captures one application's audio directly, with nothing in between.
Where it fits
Studio began as a universal client: point it at any Icecast or SHOUTcast server and broadcast. It still is. For a station MAWCast manages, you should never have to know what a mountpoint is — Studio → MAWCast → your station → listeners, with the plumbing on our side of the line.
Languages
Studio speaks the seven languages of MAWCast: English, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Italian and Russian. Linked to your account, it uses your account's language — the one Control uses — and changing it in Studio changes it there too. Unlinked, it keeps the language you chose in Settings.
Studio is a Windows application (64-bit), to be distributed as an installer and as a portable executable. It will be free forever. It is not released yet: the MAWCast site will say when it can be downloaded.
