Troubleshooting

The failures that have a specific cause, and what each one is.

Coming soon

MAWCast Studio is not released yet. This page describes how it will work; until then, connect your own encoder (see Connect your software).

Last updated October 20261 min read

Studio checks MAWCast before it opens your browser, and nothing opens if MAWCast does not answer. Check your connection and try again. If the browser did open but you closed it, press the button again — it cancels the waiting sign-in — and start over; an unfinished sign-in expires after ten minutes.

"Your MAWCast session ended. Sign in again."

The link between Studio and your account was ended — signed out from MAWCast, for example. Press Link MAWCast again.

"Icecast rejected the source credentials."

The server refused the username or source password, and Studio does not retry. Check both in the server's editor. A MAWCast station never shows this for a wrong password: Studio asks MAWCast for it each time.

"Complete the server host and source password before going live."

The active server of your own has no host or no password yet; the editor opens so you can fill them in.

Encoder error, or "FFmpeg binary is not available"

Studio could not start its own encoder. It ships inside the application folder, so the package is incomplete: the executable was copied somewhere on its own, an installation was interrupted, or security software quarantined it. Reinstall, or run the portable build as the single file it is.

No PCM received from selected application

Studio is capturing a program that is not producing audio. Either it is not playing anything, or the audio you hear comes from a different program than the one selected.

  • Play something in that program and watch the meters.
  • Check you selected the program that makes the sound, not the one that controls it.
  • If the program was opened after Studio, press refresh and select it again.

Connected, but listeners hear silence

The connection and the audio are separate problems. If the top bar says LIVE and the meters are flat, it is capture — see Audio capture. If the meters move, listen to the station itself, not your speakers.

It keeps reconnecting

Studio reconnects by itself after a drop — after 1, 2, 4, 8 and 15 seconds, then every 30 seconds for as long as it takes — and you should not have to restart it. Repeated drops are upstream bandwidth or the network: lower the bitrate or move off Wi-Fi, and watch PING while it happens.

"The encoder is falling behind; audio skipped"

The machine is not keeping up with encoding, and some audio was dropped rather than letting the delay grow. Close heavy programs, or choose a lower bitrate or a lighter recording format.

320 kbps does not sound like 320 kbps

Check the sample rate is 44.1 kHz, the input is not clipping, and the capture mode is taking the source you think. An encoder cannot add back what the stage before it lost. For a MAWCast station, listeners hear your plan's quality — see Encoder and output.

The language did not change in Control

"The language could not be saved to your MAWCast account" means MAWCast did not take the change; Studio goes back to the previous language. Try again once MAWCast is reachable.
